Welcome to my Statistics DP page.
The current unit project for the second semester comes straight out of the IMP book, and is called High Dive. This is a more algebraic and trigonometric topic, which is designed to more closely align with the math most people will take as a college freshman.
The unit question is, given a 50 ft radius Ferris wheel which makes one rotation in 40 seconds, with a center 65 ft above the ground, how can I plan where and when a diver dropped off the wheel will land so as to have a moving water filled cart underneath at the right moment to catch the diver and awe the crowd?
While this is admittedly an absurd situation, it will require multiple pieces of math to come to an answer including:
- Right triangle trig
- Quadratics
- Vector analysis
- Rotational velocity
- Rates of change (the fundamentals of calculus will be introduced, but not required)
This year we will be working through Google Classroom.
